Replacing the strap of a small tote bag

Date:
What I did:

Before

The strap of my client's tote bag was worn and frayed enough that it was time to replace it.

Before: the strap has been unthreaded from the bag in the this picture.

Before: the point of this picture is just to show how nice it is that the tote bag stands up on its own!

Before: a closeup of the worn and frayed tote bag strap.

Before: It turned out that I had a black dress (that no longer fit me) whose straps were the same width as the straps of the tote bag.

After

The bag had a black lining and black was one of the colors in the pattern of the main fabric, so my client was happy to have the replacement strap be the black from my dress. I added some interfacing (not pictured) so that the strap had the required heft and stiffness to work as a handle.
