Fixing ripped sleeves by changing a shirt from long sleeve to short sleeve

Before

This shirt of my client's had a long rip in the sleeve, extending through the sleeve placket to the cuff. Elbow patches did not make sense for this rip, because it was lower down than the elbow.

After

I instead dealt with the rip by cutting and hemming the sleeves to turn the shirt into a short sleeved shirt. The model in the pictures below is my husband, who conveniently wears the same shirt size as my client.
